Gurruwiwi
The serpent came from Naypinya (near Biranybirany)
and came out at Bukpukpuy (refinery site). When it came out
it made a spring. It stood up and caused lightning to flash.
When it left Guruthumurra (pheasant coucal) occupied that
place and is still there. That small piece of land belongs
to the Gälpu Clan.
The serpent then journeyed across to Gäluru
(East Woody Beach area) where the houses are situated on Garayal,
the serpent's backbone. Then it headed towards Wirrwawuy (Cape
Wirawawoi) where it made itself a billabong and called it
Gayngaru (town lagoon).
The serpent then stood up and looked toward
Nhulun (Mt. Saunders) but the Wuyal (the Wild Sugar Bag Man)
was already singing so the Serpent headed for Gadalathami
(town beach) and then back to Gayngaru, where it is resting
now.
The small creek at Gadalthami indicates that
the serpent has been through there. Wirrwawuy belongs to the
Gälpu Clan.
